Potomac Chinese School (PCS), founded in 1976, is a non-political and non-profit organization. The school is managed by board of directors who are elected from volunteer parents. The school offers Chinese language classes from Pre-k to 12th grade and Chinese bilingual classes for children and adults. The school also offers a variety of Chinese cultural classes and academic classes.

Currently, there are approximately 200 students, 18 teaching staffs and 9 directors of board. We are facilitated at North Bethesda Middle School at Potomac, Maryland. All classes are held on Sunday afternoon.

Mission statement

PCS has been devoting to introducing Chinese language, art and culture to general public since its establishment in 1976. Our mission is to inspire general public to embrace knowledge of Chinese heritage. PCS supports community events that endorse ethnic diversity.

Chinese Language Classes

At PCS, we have pre-k to K12 Chinese classes that are designed for students who predominantly speak Chinese with their family. Classes are taught by highly-qualified, native speaking teachers.

Chinese Bilingual Class

Our bilingual courses are designed for students who predominantly or exclusively speak English at home. Our native Chinese speaking teachers are fluent in English. We teach Hanyu Pinyin system to help learning the sound of Mandarin Chinese. We teach Simplified Chinese characters.

Chinese Culture Classes

At PCS, we offer a variety of cultural classes to children and adults including Chinese martial art, Taiji, Chinese calligraphy and painting, crafting and dancing. We also offer sport classes including badminton, tennis and basketball.

Tutoring Program

In additional to classroom learning, our native Chinese teachers offer one-on-one or group tutoring to students who need more lessons to enhance their Mandarin.

SSL credits

We encourage our students to serve community with their passion. We offer various opportunities for middle school and high school students to earn student service learning (SSL) credits.

Foreign language credits
High school students could earn foreign language credits toward their high school diploma at PCS.
